Nearly all the Cordova cross country team finished with personal records at the state tournament in Palmer from Oct. 3-4.

Senior Sadie Fry, the only girl on the team, competed in her fourth state race in four years, crossing the finish line in 19th place – “a fantastic way to end the season, and her career as a Wolverine,” Coach Katie Fry said.

On the boys team, Roman Quemado (11th grade), Eli Banks (10th), Tage Kinsman (9th), Peter Solberg (9th), Micah Phillips (9th), and Max Osborn (9th) had a “great race” against 87 other runners, Coach Fry said. Freshman River Lamb-Tancrede also joined the boys team as a manager at state.

“With no boys graduating from the team this year, and several boys moving up from Junior High, I am excited to have a really great group of experienced runners for next year’s season,” Coach Fry said.

She said the full team has run roughly 150 miles over the course of the season, which has helped them excel in training. She added that the majority of the team ran their best times during the state meet.

“Cordova XC runners have grit and determination built from the weather and hills that they tackle head on,” Coach Fry said. “Some of our favorite practices this year were in rainy, windy weather – you may have seen them playing while running through puddles and jumping with the wind.”

She also shouted out her assistant coaches Lance Westing, and Brooks Fry, as well as the community for their support.

“We have a lot of fun together as a team, and we would love to have some new faces join us in the future,” Coach Fry said.
