If you plan to travel on the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) this summer, now is the time to book trips from May 1 through Sept. 30.

“As we head into Summer 2026, the Alaska Marine Highway System is moving forward with momentum and optimism,” said AMHS Director Craig Tornga, said on Feb. 12.

“AMHS officials have been busy too advertising for the replacement of the MV Tustumena – a major step toward renewing our fleet – and we’ve completed a significant repower capital project on the MV Kennicott, improving efficiency and reliability for years to come,” Tornga said. “In addition, we’ll be releasing the RFP this month for the MV Tazlina crew quarters addition, further investing in our vessels and the people who operate them.”

The summer schedule is designed to align with special events in coastal communities and support reliable connections across the network, according to AMHS. AMHS may also contract supplemental service if service disruptions occur.
