Training for a month in the Cordova rain didn’t stop the CHS cross-country team from racing to a Region 2 Title on Saturday, Sept. 23, in Fairbanks.

The 5K competition was held under blue skies on a golf course, and most of the runners posted personal best times.

“I was very impressed with how hard these runners trained this year and pleased with the results of their work,” said Coach Jeff Hamberger.

Leading the way to a team victory was senior Floyd Witsoe in first place with a time of 17:40, and junior Tegan Hesse right on his heels with a time of 18:02, good for second place.

CHS sophomore Sadie Fry placed third in the girls’ competition with a time of 22:13.

“With two weeks to prepare for State, we are looking forward to a great competition on October 7th at the State Meet in Palmer,” said Hamberger.
