Camtu’s Alaska Wild Seafoods – a local fish processor and distributor – has pulled their offer to buy the city-owned T-Dock.

The processor had originally submitted a letter of interest to buy the dock from the city for $1 million to support its operations.

Constructed in 1988, the 300-foot-long dock has traditionally been used by various large vessels – including even the Coast Guard – for loading, unloading, and mooring. Camtu’s has also been using the T-Dock, as a way to receive raw fish for its processing facility, according to the city.

During an October City Council meeting, members mulled whether or not to sell off the dock, effectively deliberating on privatizing it.

Council members were split on the decision – some in favor of collecting the cash to help balance the city’s major budget deficits, with others against giving up public access to the dock.

This story was updated to clarify that the council was deliberating on privatizing the T-Dock for Camtu’s.
