Local residents are welcome to come grab gloves, trash bags and pick a route for Cordova Cleanup Day 2026 on Saturday, May 2.
Coordinator Sara Hottinger, who teaches home economics at Cordova Junior/Senior High School, is coordinating the event again this year. It is also a service project for high school students.
Hottinger said she and others began cleanup day as a service project several years ago. It was previously coordinated by the Cordova Chamber of Commerce.
Everyone is welcome to come pick up the yellow trash bags and gloves at the school from 9 a.m. to noon on May 2, and can do their trash pickup at the location of their choice.
Hottinger also said people are welcome to tell her their cleanup route in case they want to leave the filled trash bags along that route for pickup by the U.S. Forest Service.
Participants will get to draw for prizes donated by the Native Village of Eyak.
