Cordova students Pheobe Tschappat and Morgan Saiget will be recognized for their community achievement in Anchorage this weekend.
The pair was tapped by the state Spirit of Youth organization, which aims to promote positive youth development and connect Alaska’s youth.
They’ll be honored with the Spirit of Youth Discovery Award at The Wildbirch Hotel in Anchorage on March 28 for the work they’ve done with the Copper River Watershed Project to promote environmental stewardship in Cordova.
“Leading a recycling program, engaging students, and supporting community outreach, they provide hands-on education about watersheds and salmon life cycles and foster long-term community sustainability,” according to the Spirit of Youth Awards.
As part of the award, Saiget and Tschappat will also receive a college savings scholarship account from Alaska 529.
Saiget plans to attend Columbia University in New York City next fall, and Tschappat wants to go to nursing school.
