The Seward Seahawks swept Cordova in road games last week.

The Seward girls, the defending 2A state champions, toppled the Lady Wolverines 70-31 on Feb. 6 and 57-18 on Feb. 7 on the Kenai Peninsula. Aggressive defensive pressure held Cordova to only one point in the first half of both games.

On Feb. 6 the CHS boys also struggled against the Seahawks, trailing 34-4 at halftime, and losing 56-23. Seward took advantage of their size inside and effective perimeter shooting.

On Feb. 7 the Cordova boys came roaring back. Sparked by a season-high 30 points from Billy Bailey, CHS kept up with Seahawks throughout most of the game.

At halftime the score was tied 22-22 and knotted at 29-29 with 4:33 left in the third quarter. Cordova trailed by only three points, 52-49, with just over three minutes left in the game.

Cordova fouled to stop the clock and Seward made their free throws to pull away and win by a 63-55 final.
