In an invitational tournament at Lumen Christi featuring 2A squads from all over the state, Cordova won their first two games handily but fell to Glennallen in the title game, 27-21, on Jan. 31.
The Panthers held Cordova to only one field goal in the first quarter and one in the third quarter. CHS played solid defense too, allowing Glennallen only two field goals in the entire second half.
Unfortunately they were both three pointers. That plus the Panthers hitting six of seven from the charity stripe in the second half, versus Cordova’s three of five, proved to be the difference. Both teams managed only 9 points in the entire second half.
Isabelle Nothstine led Cordova with 12 points.
Cordova scoring: Nothstine, I., 12; Baenen, 4, Nothstine, V., 4, Vargas, 1.
Cordova opened the tournament on Jan. 29 with a 38-29 win over Dillingham.
CHS led 27-21 at half time, with Isabelle Nothstine pouring in 14 points in the first eight minutes. Defense was again key, with the Wolverines holding Dillingham to two baskets in the second half.
Cordova scoring: Baenan, 6; Tschapat, 2; Nothstine, V. 6.; Tiedeman, 4; Nothstine, I., 20.
The Lady Wolverines were on fire versus Tikiquaq in the Friday game versus the Whalers, racing to a 61-19 win.
Cordova scoring: Baenen, 12; Phillips, 2; Fry, 6; Tiedeman, W., 2; Nothstine, V., 9; Pallas, 5; Tiedeman, 1; Nothstine, I., 24.
Isabelle and Victoria Nothstine were named to the All-Tournament team.
Cordova next travels to Valdez for the Valdez Elks Tournament on Feb. 12-14.
