Cordova’s 43rd annual Tip-Off round robin tournament begins today, with two games on the schedule.
Tonight the lady Wolverines will make their debut at 6 p.m. against Nome. The Cordova boys will end the night against Nome’s JV squad at 7:30 p.m.
District officials announced they had to change Thursday’s schedule last minute because of flight delays.
The tournament kicks off after a rocky few weeks finalizing the schedule.
Due to the Alaska Marine Highway temporarily discontinuing service to and from Cordova, district officials were unsure which teams would be able to afford flying to town to play. However, Cordova School District Activities Director Seth Balint said the final push to solidify more sponsors allowed him to recruit Redington to come for Tip-Off.
“This year had a little more added stress but we are happy that we were able to fill the tournament with competitive teams,” Balint said. “Should be a fun weekend.”
The rest of the game schedule is as follows:
Jan. 16 games:
- 3 pm: Redington boys vs. Nome JV boys
- 4:30 pm: Redington girls vs. Nome girls
- 6 pm: Cordova boys vs. Akiachak boys
- 7:30 pm: Cordova girls vs. Akiachak girls
Jan. 17 games:
- 9 am: Akiachak girls vs. Redington girls
- 10:30 am: Akiachak boys vs. Redington boys
- 3 pm: Akiachak girls vs. Nome girls
- 4:30 pm: Akiachak boys vs. Nome JV boys
- 6 pm: Cordova girls vs. Redington girls

Balint said based on the wins and losses, officials will determine the 1st and 2nd place team awards, as well as the individual All Tournament award and the Most Valuable Player award.
