Cordovans will be celebrating its annual Old Time 4th of July Celebration on Friday, complete with a full day of activities.
According to the Cordova Chamber of Commerce, the celebration will include a vendor and artisan market, children’s games, activity booths, square dancing, food vendors, and ceremonial elements – including the presentation of the colors and the singing of the national anthem.
The chamber wasn’t originally sure it would be able to host the event, because of staffing and funding shortages. But with a campaign to solicit volunteers and key financial and in-kind contributions from the Native Village of Eyak, the Cordova Parks and Recreation Department, and the Chugach Alaska Corporation – the event is on.
“This event is a true reflection of Cordova’s spirit,” said Chamber Executive Director Cathy Renfeldt. “The support we received so far from key community partners has been crucial.”
