U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski will be in Cordova this weekend, and locals will have a chance to meet with her.
Alaska’s senior senator is slated to participate in a town hall of sorts on Sunday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Mt. Eccles Elementary School commons – where Cordovans will be able to engage with her about issues they’d like her to prioritize.
During Wednesday’s City Council meeting, Cordova’s council members indicated they’d like to speak with Murkowski about the financial strain of the city and school district, among other concerns.
Council Member Kasey Kinsman even suggested the town hall take place at Cordova Senior/Junior High School to Murkowski could see the state of the building. However, because of budget constraints, the Cordova School District is renting the school out to the National Guard this summer and won’t be available.
“(I) just want to take full advantage of having the delegation in town,” Kinsman said during Wednesday’s meeting, adding that he wants bring “whatever attention we can for the needs that we have.”
Cordovans who have questions or concerns for Murkowski are encouraged to email Cordova City Clerk Susan Bourgeois at [email protected]. The correspondence will be compiled and presented to Murkowski during Sunday’s town hall.
The senator also plans to attend the Prince William Sound Science Center’s Copper River Nouveau fundraiser event on Saturday.
