After a recent City Council budget work session, I started thinking about the long history of the

building we now call the Bidarki Recreation Center. Completing some research, I came across

these photographs of the very same building, but in a variety of uses!

Built in 1934, the large edifice at the corner of Council and Second Street was Cordova’s first

City Administration Facility. The city manager, clerk and finance director had offices below the

basketball court. The Police had offices and a jail out back and the Fire Department had two

bays for the fire equipment.
