Repairs are underway at a local post office beset by maintenance issues.
After the city took up the issue of post office maintenance at an Oct. 7 city council meeting, the U.S. Postal Service hired local contractors to repair doors at the Cordova Post Office, officials said. One of the post office’s entrance doors had its closing mechanism broken in a windstorm Oct. 2 and was subsequently propped closed with a trash can. Another door had its closing mechanism broken more than a year prior.
Parts and equipment for further repairs have been ordered and are expected to arrive in late December or in January, Mayor Clay Koplin said. Subsequently, maintenance staff will schedule a trip to Cordova to make repairs.
The city received expressions of concern from the public about the state of the post office building, Koplin said.
