Coast Guard evacuates ailing fisherman

An ailing crewman aboard the F/V Wonderland northwest of Ketchikan was evacuated by the Coast Guard on July 2 and transported to Bar Harbor in Ketchikan for care from emergency medical responders.

The 62-year-old man was reported to be experiencing severe abdominal pains.

Coast Guard officials said a 45-foot response boat-medium crew from Station Ketchikan met the vessel in Clarence Strait to transport the man for medical assistance.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Donald Mcleod, officer of the day at Station Ketchikan, commended the cooperation of crew aboard the Wonderland, the EMS crew on shore and command center watchstanders at Sector Juneau.

Weather at the time of the medevac included two-foot seas, five mile an hour winds and six miles of visibility.
