Itchoak named to lead Wilderness Society in Alaska

Karlin Itchoak, a member of the Nome Eskimo Community who holds a law degree from Gonzaga University, has joined the staff of The Wilderness Society in Alaska as state director.

Itchoak most recently served as chief administrative and legal officer for the Ukpeagvik Inupiat Native Corp. He is also a former president of the Nome Eskimo Community, a federally recognized tribal government.

His professional career has also included directing Alaska rural and indigenous programs at the Institute of the North, working on the gubernatorial campaign of current Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz, clerking for Alaska Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander O. Bryner, producing economic development plans for the Bering Strait region while serving with Kawerak Inc., in Nome, and co-founding a consulting firm focused om Arctic business relations, partnerships and diplomacy.Itchoak has undergraduate degrees in Alaska Native studies and political science from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and a law degree from Gonzaga University.
