PWS shrimp pot fishery is over

State fisheries biologists have closed the Prince William Sound area commercial shrimp pot fishery for the season.

The fishery opened April 15 with a guideline harvest level of 68,100 pounds.

Shellfish management biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game said on May 28 that harvest reports combined with fish ticket data indicated than 50 percent of the guideline harvest level would be achieved in statistical area 475036 by 10 a.m. on May 29 and the entire fishery’s guideline harvest level would be achieved by 8 p.m. that evening.

Given that data, ADF&G said statistical area 476036 would close at 10 a.m. on that date and the remaining statistical areas would close at 8 p.m. that evening.

Harvesters were reminded that they still needed to call the reporting line with landing reports at 907-226-3474. Information to be reported was detailed in the registration packet all registrants received.
