Rummage Sale

A rummage sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, beginning Monday, May 6 and running until Saturday, May 18 at the Salvation Army on Main Street. For more information call Steve Leppert at 907-429-6262.

Fishermen picnic

Trident Seafoods’ fishermen picnic will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 10 at the North Plant Galley, 301 Jim Poor Ave.

Movie night

Cordova Gear presents “Free Solo” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10 at North Star Theatre, located in the Cordova Center.

Garage Sale

Various families will be selling their items throughout the Coast Guard Housing Community from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, May 11. Those interested in shopping are asked to please drive slowly.

Blessing of the Fleet

Cordova District Fishermen United invites the community to join in on the annual Blessing of the Fleet at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 11 at the Coast Guard Dock. Vessels are asked to meet in front of the Coast Guard dock and tune to VHF channel 14.


CRS Fisherman BBQ

Copper River Seafoods’ fishermen BBQ will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Copper River Seafood Plant on Cannery Row.

Saturday Market

This month’s Saturday Market is just in time for Mother’s Day. Shop for locally made gifts between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Masonic Lodge.

Cordova High School graduation

The Cordova High School graduation will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 at the high school.

Used book sale

The Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting a used book sale between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. until May 23 in the basement of the hospital. Hardbacks are $1; paperbacks 50 cents. There are also puzzles and DVDs for sale by donation. Proceeds will go to the Hospital Auxiliary.

Cordova Cleanup Day

The Cordova Chamber of Commerce is hosting Cordova Cleanup Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25. Meet at the Cordova Center at 10 a.m. to get bags, gloves and location assignments. Participants meet at noon at the Cordova Center for a barbeque lunch, free for all volunteers. Volunteers will also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win door prizes.


Moms, Pops and Tots!

A play group for children from infants to 4 years old is open from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays at the Masonic Lodge. The group focuses on exploring developmental issues and building on each child’s strengths through large-motor and small-motor skills play, pretend play and sensory play. Gospel sing-along

Join members of the St. George Episcopal Church on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Cordova Community Medical Center for their Tuesday gospel sing-along, started in honor of Frances Mallory, and led by Christina Vican and Rev. Belle Mickelson. Anyone who wants to sing or play gospel songs is welcome to join to bring smiles to the long-term residents and hospital staff. For more information contact Belle on 907-424-5143.

Men’s Bible study

A men’s Bible study, led by Matt Rush, will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Red Dragon.

Knit & Lit Book Club

Bring your knitting and join the Knit & Lit Book Club at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the fireplace in the Cordova Public Library. The meetings are the last Tuesdays of every month. This month’s books are “The Immortalists” by Chloe Benjamin and “The Book of Dust” by Philip Pullman. May’s book will be “The Underground Railroad” by Colson Whitehead and June’s book will be “Noughts & Crosses” by Malorie Blackman.


Little Ones at Storytime

Little Ones at Storytime, with youth services librarian Anna Hernandez, is 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays in the Cordova Public Library. Join Anna for stories, songs, and finger plays, geared toward preschool ages.

Teen Art

Teen Art with Paula Payne will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays in the Education Room at the Cordova Center.

Open studio life drawing

An open studio life drawing class Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m., began Jan. 30 at the Cordova Center education room. A model fee donation of $5-10 is suggested and drop-ins are welcome. For more information call Paula Payne at 907-424-6667.


Skeet and Trap shooting

Join the Cordova Trap & Gun Club every Thursday evening starting at 6 p.m. for skeet and trap shooting at the Cordova Public Shooting Range out Sheridan Glacier Road. For more information, follow their Facebook page at or email [email protected].


After School Art

After School Art with Debbie Carlson will be held 3-4 p.m. Fridays in the Education Room at the Cordova Center. This program is geared towards grades 1-4.

Patch the Pirate Kids Club

Patch the Pirate Kids Club will be held 3-5 p.m. Fridays at the MorningStar Independent Baptist Church, at their new location at the old troopers building, for children grades first through sixth.



Homeport Coffee Shop is open from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday nights. Enter at the side door, below the Cordova Community Baptist Church, and enjoy coffee, desserts, free Wi-Fi and board games.


Movies with Alec

Join librarian Alec for Sunday Movies from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays at the Education Room in the Cordova Center. Free popcorn is provided. Choose from the movie selection at the library. First come, first serve. The event is free for the public.

Youth gathering
