Dockside delivery of fresh Tanner crab

Thousands of pounds of Tanner crab were delivered last week, marking the fishery’s second consecutive year since it last operated in Cordova in 1988.

After delivering about 2,000 pounds to Trident Seafoods, Makena O’Toole brought the F/V Regalia dockside to sell more crab in the Cordova Boat Harbor on Thursday, March 7.

He and his crew, Jordan Kompkoff, Bryce Mortensen and Seth Nelson, left Cordova Feb. 27 and spent six days fishing.

O’Toole planned to head out again before the fishery’s scheduled closure for March 31, but was waiting for heavy wind, and rain and snow to subside.

Rebecca Calfina brought her son Tyler, who hopped on board and carefully picked out his two crab, saying he really wanted to keep them as pets.

The historic 2018 Tanner crab delivery to Cordova, the first in 30 years, fell on her 30th birthday, Calfina said, as she waited to pay for this year’s crab.
