A marketing program capitalizing on “wild taste from an amazing place” is attracting more retailers nationwide to showcasing Bristol Bay sockeye salmon and telling the story of the fishermen who harvest it.

The branding program was developed by the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association in 2016 in Boulder, CO., before it was launched nationwide in 2017, and promoted in over 1,000 stores in 2018.

Pavillions in Southern California promoted Bristol Bay sockeye during National Seafood Month in October, with the red salmon sales posting an 81 percent increase over refreshed sockeye sales for the same period a year earlier. The promotion was part of an innovative tie-8in promotion with Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute promoting a dedicated Alaska section of the seafood case during October.

BBRSDA has a number of retail promotions planed for 2019, but is actively recruiting new retail and food service partners. Those interested are asked to contact BBRSDA at ifo@bbrsda.com to set up a meeting. BBRSDA will also be exhibiting at the Seafood Expo North America in Boston from March 18-20.
