Draney begins work as Cordova Community Medical Center CFO

The Cordova Community Medical Center has hired Randall Draney as their new chief financial officer.

Draney, who began work Dec. 31, came from Wyoming and has a background in healthcare and finance in hospitals.

He earned his master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Washington, but then became interested in finance and earned his Certified Public Accountant license.

Draney has been the CEO at two different hospitals and most recently was the controller of the Star Valley Medical Center in Afton, a critical access hospital in rural Wyoming.

He notes similar challenges between SVMC and CCMC, such as isolation and lack of staffing continuity, but said that he, “loves the challenge.”

For Draney, Cordova’s location and isolation made accepting the job an easy choice.

“I love the combination of water and boats and just being on the shore,” he said.

Draney said that he wants to help address health problems in the community and also learn about the region’s heritage and culture and attend events such as the upcoming Iceworm Festival.

“I really would like to become part of the community,” he said.

For now, Draney’s focus is working one step at a time and emphasizing basic process including paying and collection bills, and accounting.

“It just seemed to be a really good fit for me,” he said. “I really like to build and improve things.”
