Employment in health care continues to rise, with 1,000 jobs added since February 2017, for a 2.7 percent gain.
Elsewhere in the state employment was down by an estimated 0.7 percent in February from the same month a year ago, with a loss of some 2,300 jobs.
That included oil and gas jobs, down by 6.8 percent, 700 jobs, and retail down 2.3, 800 jobs.
Construction employment fell by 0.8 percent, 100 jobs.
Federal jobs were down by 0.7 percent, state by 1.7 percent and local by 0.7 percent, with the local government declines in public education.
Manufacturing and transportation, warehousing and utilities both gained about 100 jobs.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment in Alaska remained at 7.3 percent, compared to the national rate of 4.1 percent.
The state’s not-seasonally adjusted rate was 8.2 percent, up one-tenth of a percentage point from January. Unemployment rose in 16 of 29 boroughs and census areas, while remaining the same in three. Lowest rates were in the Aleutians East Borough and Aleutians West Census area, typical due to winter fisheries. Rates were highest in Skagway, a town dependent on summer tourism.
