Wrestlers medal at tourney, head to state on May 9-10

Several members of the Cordova Pounders Wrestling Club medaled at the Avalanche Wrestling tournament at South Anchorage High School on Saturday, April 26.'a0
Jacob Werner took second in Novice 100, and Skyler Newman took third in Novice 112.
Tyson Hottinger took second in School Boy/Girl 77, and Seth Balint won the Cadet 135 division.
For several of the wrestlers '97 Newman, Hottinger and David Anderson II '97 it was their first tournament of the season.'a0
"For both (Shiloh) Joyce and Anderson, they wrestled hard but were unable to make into the top three," coach Eric Lian said.'a0
The wrestlers were chaperoned by Mike Balint, father of Seth; Carol Hanely, mother of Joyce; Lovie Werner, mother of Jacob Werner; and Lian.'a0
The wrestlers are looking forward to the state matches, which will be held at the Wasilla Multi-Use Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10.
