A 10-hour, hands-on safety and survival training for commercial fishermen and other boaters will be offered Friday, April 11, and Saturday April 12, at the Cordova Fire Hall by the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association.
Cost for this course is $175, but is available free to commercial fishermen and family members thanks to funding from National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and the U.S. Coast Guard.
During this U.S. Coast Guard-approved training, participants practice with emergency equipment that should be onboard any commercial fishing or other sizeable vessel. These include personal flotation devices, life rafts, immersion suits and fire extinguishers.
Participants learn and practice emergency procedures including man overboard, abandon ship, fire fighting and flooding control.
For additional information or to register, contact Torie Baker at the Cordova Marine Advisory Program office at (907) 424-7542 or Steven Campbell at AMSEA’s Kodiak Office (907) 487-2269 or (907) 539-2069.
